Using your NDIS funding for Nelli

Nelli may be purchasable using NDIS funding depending on your individual goals and plan. This page explains how the process works, what you need to get started, and what to do if you hit a roadblock.

Can Nelli be funded?

NDIS funding is based on each participant's individual goals and plan. Whether Nelli can be purchased using your NDIS funding depends on how goals are written and what supports are included in the plan.

Nelli Co Pty Ltd is a registered NDIS provider. The Nelli Smart Hub is low-cost assistive technology, priced at $417.27 (GST-free for NDIS participants), which is well under the $1,500 low-cost AT threshold. This means no written NDIA pre-approval is required.

Nelli is registered under four support categories:

Registration groupSupport category
0103

Assistive products for personal care and safety

0112

Assistive equipment for recreation

0123

Assistive products for household tasks

0124

Communication and information equipment

The right category for your claim will depend on your child's or your NDIS goals. If you're not sure which one applies, your plan manager or support coordinator can help, or contact us at support@nelli.com.au and we'll point you in the right direction.

We recommend having a letter of support from an allied health professional such as an occupational therapist, psychologist, or behaviour support practitioner to accompany your claim. While not always required, it significantly increases the likelihood of approval. A recommendation letter template is available to download and share with your therapist.

What type of plan management do you have?

The process for claiming Nelli depends on how your NDIS plan is managed. If you're not sure which type you have, check your plan or ask your support coordinator.

Plan-managed

Your plan manager handles payments on your behalf.

  1. Request your NDIS invoice from Nelli using our invoice request form
  2. Forward the invoice and any supporting documentation to your plan manager
  3. Your plan manager submits the claim to the NDIA on your behalf
  4. Once approved, your plan manager pays Nelli directly and we process your order

Timeline: Most plan-managed claims are processed within 2 weeks. We dispatch your order once payment is received from your plan manager.

Self-managed

You manage your own funding and claim reimbursements directly from the NDIA.

Recommended approach — claim first, then purchase:

  1. Request your NDIS invoice from Nelli using our invoice request form
  2. Log in to your NDIS portal and submit the invoice as a claim for approval
  3. Wait for the NDIA to approve the claim
  4. Once approved, pay Nelli using the bank details on your invoice and we will process your order

Alternative approach: You can purchase Nelli directly through our website first, then submit the order receipt to the myNDIS portal to claim reimbursement. We recommend getting approval first to avoid disappointment if the claim is not approved.

Agency-managed

The NDIA manages your funding directly. We process the claim on your behalf through the MyPlace provider portal.

  1. Request your NDIS invoice using our invoice request form — make sure you select "Agency-managed" as your plan type
  2. We process the claim directly with the NDIA through the MyPlace provider portal on your behalf
  3. The NDIA pays us directly once the claim is approved
  4. We dispatch your order once payment is received from the NDIA

Important — details must match exactly. To lodge your claim we need the participant's full legal name, NDIS number, and date of birth. These details must match exactly what is recorded in the NDIA system. If there is any discrepancy we will not be able to lodge the claim, and processing will be delayed. Please double-check these details before submitting your invoice request.

Administration fee: There is a $44 administration fee for agency-managed claims. This covers the cost of processing your claim through the MyPlace portal on your behalf. This fee will be included on your invoice.

Timeline: Agency-managed claims are usually paid within a few days but it can take up to six weeks. This timeline is set by the NDIA and is outside our control. We will keep you updated throughout the process.
